Volunteer Programs
The FRIENDS has a continuing need for volunteers to assist Seashore staff and our leaders with programs and projects.

If you have skills and interest in any of the following and wish to volunteer, please email volunteer@fccns.org or go to our online volunteer interest form.

  • Communications (Newsletter, graphic arts, publicity)
  • Photography
  • Membership
  • Computers (Databases)
  • Fund Raising/Finance
  • Summer band concerts & Campfire Sing-Alongs
  • Ecology Research Projects
  • Beach Clean-ups
  • Trail Maintenance
  • Seashore monitoring projects (Bird habitats, Water Quality)

Volunteer Time is subject to your own schedule. Please contact us if you have a match with the skills needed.

The following special programs can always use more hands:

· TRAIL MAINTENANCE

We perform regular maintenance on selected trails within the Seashore. In general this involves clearing light brush, replacing broken fences and repairing eroded areas. We currently help to maintain seven of the park's most popular trails. With additional volunteers we could add two more. This activity is ideal for volunteers since it allows them to establish their own schedule.

· BEACH GRASS PLANTING & INVASIVE PLANT REMOVAL

Seashore staff sometimes need help removing invasive plant species such as Scotch broom, spotted knapweed, bristly locust and cheat grass in several areas, and in restoring native species to these disturbed habitats. Volunteers should enjoy working outdoors and be physically fit; specifically they need to be able to pull weeds and do other sorts of gardening work.

· ONE-TIME OPPORTUNITIES

We have two annual Saturday projects that involve just a few hours of volunteer time. In April we celebrate Earth Day with beach and roadside clean-ups at selected areas in the park. In September we participate in Public Lands Day by helping with a planting or maintenance project in conjunction with park personnel. At other times we respond to Seashore needs as requested. For example, after a big storm several volunteers gathered to clean debris from the Hemenway Landing area.

For more information, or to volunteer for a specific opportunity, please contact the Friends via email volunteer@fccns.org
